Neonatal Nurse Practitioner BS-DNP Part-Time Plan of Study

Graduates are prepared to assume roles as Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. Graduates are prepared for eligibility to apply for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner examination given by the National Certification Corporation.

The Doctoral Programs offered through the University of Connecticut, School of Nursing prepare nurse scholars with a focus in either the Scholarship of Discovery (Ph.D. Program), or the Scholarship of Application (DNP Program). The DNP is designed for nurses seeking a terminal degree in nursing practice for those who plan to have a career in the clinical practice setting as an APRN or Nurse Leader.

Semester I Fall

  • NURS 5020: Statistical Methods in Nursing – 3 Credits

  • NURS 5870: Health Policy and Populations-based Advocacy for The Scholarship of Application – 3 Credits
  • NURS 5030: Nursing Research for Clinical Scholarship – 3 Credits

Semester III Summer

  • NURS 5035: Evidence-based Practice to Advance Clinical Scholarship – 3 Credits

Semester IV Fall

  • NURS 5060: Advanced Pathophysiology across the Lifespan – 3 Credits
  • NURS 5350: Advanced Embryology and Neonatal Physiology – 3 Credits

Semester V Spring

  • NURS 5362: Advanced Health Assessment for the Nurse Practitioner Role: Neonatal Population-focus – 3 Credits

  • Students entering with < 750 post-BS clinical hours will require more hours/Residency credits.
  • Students who take electives will earn additional credits.
